JAM Session: January 14, 2025 Anything Goes Updated Dec 21
It began in the fertile soil of Wisconsin’s Fox Valley region, where the young Houdini first sprouted his magic roots.
As a testament to his enduring influence, his legacy is presently championed by the Dr. Lynn Miner Ring 398 of the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
We are a group of magicians who bring Houdini-like wonderment to residents of the Fox Valley region. We are called a “Ring,” which is magic jargon for a local magic club that is affiliated with more than three hundred other worldwide “Rings” of the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
Whether you're in search of an enchanting magician for your next event, intrigued by the possibility of joining our esteemed Ring, eager to master a mesmerizing magic trick, or simply fascinated by the enchanting world of magic in our region...you've landed in the perfect spot.
We have an Open Door policy and you are welcome. Check out our meetings for FREE!
The Dr. Lynn Miner Ring 398 provides all students of magic, regardless of age or skill level, with high-quality magic education experiences in a safe place for their achievement, discovery and serious play.
This is what we believe in. This is what we are all about. We hope to see you at a Ring meeting – soon. We’ve reserved a chair with your name on it.
Our vision is to help all Ring members realize their own best potential, not only as magic artists and performers but also as whole people. To accomplish this vision, we offer live and online learning opportunities for all of our magic members to learn practical lessons and hands-on training in all areas of the art of magic.
The Fox Valley Ring 398 was officially chartered by the International Brotherhood of Magicians on November 11, 2017.
It published a Ring Parade in the December 2018 issue of The Linking Ring. Members contributed eight different magic effects. Another Ring Parade was published in August 2024, again with eight member contributions.
It held its first public show and fundraiser, the Fox Valley Magic Extravaganza, on March 10, 2018.
It applied for and received a New Ring grant from the Endowment and Development Fund of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. The money was used to pay outside lecture fees.
To date, guest lecturers have included Michael Finney (comedy magician and I.B.M. president: 2018-2019), Jimmy C (an award-winning East coast magician), Eric Stevens (a new star in magic), Dan Fleshman (a premiere restaurant magician), and Paul Draper, an internationally known mentalist.
Ring 398 has also enjoyed lectures from Wisconsin magicians, including Monty Witt, Marv Roth, Dan Feaster, Dr. Lynn Miner, and Scott Lane.
On August 31, 2021, Ring 398 was officially renamed the Dr. Lynn Miner Ring 398 in honor of his exemplary leadership and dedication to the preservation and performance of magic.
On October 23, 2023, Ring 398 performed the Cavalcade of Magic public show for Fox Valley residents. A write-up of the event appears in the January 2024 issue of The Linking Ring.
A Ring 398 Party and Installation Ceremony was held on is November 17, 2019 and again in December 2021 and in December 2023.
To promote the future of magic, Ring 398 awards annually a Junior Magician of the Year distinction. The recipients include Kahlan Scherg (2023) and Nico Lopez (2024).

Ring 398 utilizes a unique hybrid model to ensure that all members can easily participate in our meetings. This flexibility allows you to join us either in person or via Zoom, making attendance convenient for everyone. We gather twice a month for engaging sessions.
JAM Session: Our first meeting of the month, known as JAM (Just About Magic), takes place on the second Tuesday at 7:00 pm. During JAM, the focus is solely on magic – no business discussions, just pure magical exploration. Whether you're refining a trick, seeking advice on patter, eager to learn a new technique, or simply experimenting with a fresh concept, JAM provides the perfect platform.
Showcase Session: The second meeting, held on the fourth Tuesday at 7:00 pm, is our Showcase Session. Here, we share brief magic updates and news before diving into performances centered around the month's theme. While showcasing theme-related magic is encouraged, it's not mandatory – all magical contributions are welcome.
Accessing JAM and Showcase Sessions: For in-person gatherings, we meet at Monty’s Secret Theater, located at 309 E. Kimberly Avenue, Kimberly, WI. Alternatively, to join us via Zoom, simply reach out to our Ring 398 Secretary, Kevin Koehne, at Kevin.Koehne@gmail.com to receive the current Zoom link.
We look forward to welcoming you to our magical community, whether in person or online!
